Comments: I had a very good ride this morning – rode from Menton to just past Cannes and then back. I had to go to the airport at 13:00 and as I was scheduled a 5:30 bike today, I had to wake and start early to get it done. Ride to Cannes was very nice – It was cold when I left, so I wore a long bike jacket over my jersy and a bright yellow riding shirt over the jacket, thus I was foolishly attired for the long ride (must have been tired because it was stupid to wear so much) and I was hot. On the way back, a pack of riders flew past me (didnt even say bonjour) so I drafted off them for as long as possible, we were going 41km from Antibes to Nice which is all flat. When it came to my turn to lead the pack, I lasted a good 45 minutes, until the first hill in Nice …. but I died. Incredible how fast the group (a cannes bike club) of “old” men went up the hills. I rode with a few of the slower men who were both in their 60s or 70s, but they kicked my ass. No one in the group spoke to me, not even hello! (in italy everyone usually says hello and seem much friendlier than in France when I am riding – from my limited cycling experience)
Good ride – I rode 2:45 out and much quicker back, about 2 hours back so to ensure I rode my 5 hours 30, once I arrived back to near my apartment, I rode into Menton and then into Latte, Italy and back up to my apartment.
My best bike training yet.
Total training today: 5:22
