what is your InnerFight challenge this year?

Last week, I turned 45 years old.

As most readers know, I like to do endurance challenges and races, and I use the training and adventure from the experiences to help me focus on my climb.

With that said … since my race across America bike race this past June, I haven’t gone after anything to train for, and haven’t trained much.  Consequently, I have gained 15 kilos since June.

So this year, I came up with a personal challenge that won’t distract me from work, and is still tough enough to get me to the next level in my fitness.

In December 2016, I am going to climb Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America and part of the seven summits.

But …

Since my climb is a year away, I have set a 6 month challenge which will help me prepare for the climb, and also adds greatly to my preparation for when I row the Atlantic in Nov. 2017.

I have hired the leader of InnerFight, Marcus Smith to train me for a special challenge which I call my InnerFight Challenge.

My personality needs a tough coach who kicks my ass, and the main reason I contacted Marcus and asked him to train me was because he is well known for being tough.

And when I discussed my challenge, I told him how I had 3 hours a day where I can train, and how I wanted to do crossfit, rowing, ski-erg and a hell week every 6th week …

So Marcus created my challenge…

My InnerFight Challenge:

I train from 5:30 – 8:30 am Sunday – Thursday.

The first hour I do a crossfit class which helps my cardio, strength and works my core.

The 2nd and 3rd hours are spent either rowing or ski-erg depending on the day with the main focus on my cardio and core.

When I was 21 years old, I had a compound fracture (where the bone went through my skin) in my left arm (picture above) and I still have a metal plate and screws in my arm.

Because of this injury, I have not been able to do more than one or two consecutive pull ups and only a few consecutive push-ups since I was in my early 20’s.

But I never tried to do them, and never actively trained to get my arm in shape to be able to because its difficult.

This is another part of my InnerFight challenge, and 30 minutes each day (alternating days) is spent either doing training for pull ups or push-ups

Ridiculous to think I can do multiple consecutive ironman triathlons, but I can’t do even 6 consecutive pull ups and I struggle to do 7 consecutive push-ups.

The final aspect to my InnerFight Challenge 2016 is to get my body fat % below 10%.

I have not had my body fat % below 10% since early high school???  I am not sure even when I was 15 years old my body fat was less than 10%.

…but, I have to make it happen.

Yesterday, I had lunch with my brother in law, Romain who is also a very close friend of mine.

When I told him about my 6 month challenge, that French cock told me he didn’t think it was possible for me to get my body fat % below 10%.

And with his smug, unshaven chubby face in his trade mark thick, opinionated French accent, he said to me, “you are 45 years old.  it’s going to be very difficult .. next to impossible to achieve below 10%” …

He didn’t say this to motivate me … for some reason, he just felt it best to share his opinion.

“it’s going to be very difficult… next to impossible to achieve less than 10% body fat” …

Maybe, but we’ll see.

June 15th 2016 is my deadline.

I challenge you to stop talking about what you are going to do; stop making excuses why you can’t do something and stop finding reasons why you didn’t achieve your goals.

For the ones who live in Dubai … come and join me at the best gym in Dubai and make your own challenge happen this year.

And don’t think too much.

There is 15 year old skinny kid in my class who squats more than I can … most of the woman are stronger than I am.
