why would a 45 year old man do 1,000 burpees for time?

Yesterday, I completed my first, and easiest hell week of my 6 month InnerFight challenge.

Although my hell week is nothing worthy of special attention, I did:

Friday:  50km run in the desert  (it was absolute pain and a miserable 8+ hours)

Saturday:  180 km bike with 90km climbing  (it was a mental challenge)

Sunday:  recovery

Monday:  1,000 burpes for time took me 2 hours and 36 minutes  (pure misery the entire time)

Tuesday:  40km row  took me 3 hours and 23 minutes  (lower back pain consumed me)

Thursday:  hour cross fit class followed immediately by 1 mile sled pull for time with 75% of my body weight took 55 minutes.  (pulling 70kg across rough concrete is not much fun)

Why did I do any of this????

As I was struggling to pull the sled with 70kg over the mile of rough, uneven concrete … something I started to pull immediately after doing 75 burpes, 100 push press and 125 back squats both with 40kg in the crossfit class … I was dead tired, but smiled to myself thinking about my “why.”

And my “why” … which is just to see if I can do it … doesn’t make sense to most people.

No, I am not facing any midlife crisis, nor am I trying to be forever young …

I just like the physical, and more so the massive mental challenge of doing things like this.  This stuff helps keep me focused.

Life is not always soft and cushy, and to get to the top of anything, you are going to have to go through pain, misery and especially struggle to achieve.

Too many of us are chasing a soft cushy life focused on being comfortable and happy..

When in fact, achieving/finding happiness more times than not, requires pain and struggle.
