Ryan Lochte is a victim.
Last night I made a bet with a close friend of mine in Dubai … I bet a nice dinner at La Serre, my favorite French restaurant in Dubai, that nearly all Lochte’s sponsors (esp. Speedo) are going to “stand by their man,” and very few, if any of his sponsors will dump him for his recent dishonorable behavior at the Olympics … because Ryan Lochte is a victim.
Irrespective of Ryan being a 32 year old man, competing at the Olympics games, something which celebrates and focuses on the “greatness in man,” Ryan and his buddies were just having fun, and in the heat of their passion of just having fun, they got completely wasted, and unfortunately, forgot in the real world, lying and vandalism is something that is frowned upon.
I can just see his next press conference now …the reporters will be smiling and giggling, teasing the very handsome, accomplished white swimmer … and this will become part of comedy skits, and I bet even our buddies Trump and Hillary will join in the fun and make jokes of this mess…
Because the world we live in today this type of behavior is just accepted, almost encouraged by all the social media dominating our lives.
Speedo is probably excited of how much exposure this is bringing them because today their star is all over every news site, even FT and WSJ mention this mess on their sites.
I bet Lochte has more twitter followers; more snapchat, facebook “likes” today than ever before.
In the world I grew up in, as Cormac McCarthy refers to as, “back in the days of sir and maa’m” …. before any of this type of dishonorable behavior could have occurred, these grown men would have been “strongly encouraged” by their leaders — the coaching staff — not to go out and get completely wasted at the Olympics; they would have been “strongly reminded” that they represent their country, various college and club teams, not to mention they would have understood how they are role models for all the young people watching/following them – thus, more likely than not, this dishonorable behavior would not have happened.
Even if I lose my bet (which I don’t think I will), I suggest dishonorable behavior (in our world today) esp. in America is too often just pushed aside, almost accepted because there is very little leadership anymore — we are all just victims of our circumstance.

You lost the bet 😉 He lost all his sponsors.
Maybe the world isn’t as bad as you think – maybe if the people come together they can drive change. Little by little.
