Hike in the mountains:  5:40 in total … 3:40 nearly, non stop climbing/hiking up 2,000 meters.

Comments:

Mario and his wife Sabine, 5 year old daughter met Sophie, Giovanna, Marie and I for a day together.

The plan was we would all hike the 90 minutes to the midway point where there is a mountain restaurant/cafe and play ground for the girls to play, and then Mario and I would countinue to climb another 2 hours to the top of the mountain – at a jog pace.

It was a good challenge, the first 90 minutes and I was impressed with how well Marie (my 16 year old daughter) climbed.  She finished 10 minutes before us.  My legs were sore and tired .. secretly, i wasnt looking forward to the “2 hour steep climb to the top…”

At the midway point (after 90 minutes) Mario told me to keep on climbing, and not to take a break … so we left Sophie, Sabine and the girls at the rest area and kept going.

Marie ran up to us and asked if she could continue to climb to the top with us, and Mario happily agreed.

The final 2 hours were challenging because of the steepness and the altitude (we climbed to 2,000 meters).  Marie kept up with us the entire climb and finished about the same time as me.  Both Mario and I were impressed with her effort.

3:40 of literally non stop climbing … was a great workout.

The view was gorgeous, and well worth the pain it took to get to the top.

Going back down was killer on my legs …

We arrived back at our cars after nearly 6 hours … and then we drove to the cold lake (in the pictures at the top) which I stood up to my waste to ice my legs.  felt great.

Monday is my first day off in 7 days … and Mario overheard Sophie and I talking about going to Innsbruck for the day.  Mario said to us “scott’s not on vacation … he needs to stay at home and rest his body, not sit in a car driving around.  His legs need to recover.”

I will stay home and do GM reviews on my day off…. probably lay in bed all day.

Over dinner at night, Sophie told me that she and Marie have decided to train to run a marathon – the Tokyo Marathon in mid Feb. 012.

Very cool.
